Five departments: compliance renewable steel since 2021 are free to import raw material

Five departments, including the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the National Development and Reform Commission, jointly issued a notice on matters related to regulating the import management of recycled steel raw materials on December 31, 2020, stating that products that meet the national standards for recycled steel raw materials do not belong to solid waste and can be freely imported.

A person in charge of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment said the announcement aims to standardize China's import of recycled steel raw materials to clarify requirements and form a resultant force. According to the relevant provisions of import and export of China, the commodity code of the customs has been clarified for the recycled steel raw materials. At the same time, the import of the recycled steel raw materials that do not meet the national standards will be prohibited. The announcement will take effect on Jan 1, 2021.

The national standard of recycled steel raw materials has been officially released on December 17. The standard provides standard technical support for the overall utilization of domestic and international renewable steel raw materials resources, and is conducive to promoting the high-quality development of China's steel industry.
